Fast Facts About Arts United Back to top
- Arts United supports over 80 arts and cultural organizations in the Greater Fort Wayne community

- Arts United is the single largest financial source for arts groups in the region

- Arts United owns and operates 4 facilities including the Hall Community Center, the Fort Wayne Ballet building, the historic Canal House (administrative offices of Arts United), and the Arts United Center (the performing home of the arts)

- Arts United serves as the granting agent for the Indiana Arts Commission for the northeast Indiana region, spanning 10 counties which include Allen, Dekalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Miami, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley

- During the summer of 2009 Arts United merged the Arts Unite Festival with the Taste of Fort Wayne combining free entertainment with great food. This festival took place on the Arts United Center Plaza, included 30 performances by a variety of groups as well as a hands-on activities for children. Proceeds from food and beverage sales will create a new grant fund for schools to pay for field trip transportation costs or artist-in-residence programs.

- Annually, Arts United enriches the lives of over 250,000 children by supporting local cultural insitutions.

Steps to a successful Arts United Campaign Back to top
CEO Support
-
Personal pledge to join the Medici Circle ($1,000 contribution)
- A letter to all employees endorsing the campaign
- A letter to top executives encouraging a leadership gift of $1,000 or more
- Authorization of payroll deduct and matching gift
- Approval of a campaign chair with leadership skills and a support committee

Senior Management Participation
-
Personal pledge to join the Medici Circle or make a first time pledge of $500
- Department/division email to endorse the campaign and encourage employees to contribute

Workplace Planning Committee
- Select committee members from different departments which will produce better ideas, higher campaign visibility, and stronger word-of mouth promotion
- A planning committee can divide up responsibilities and recruit additional volunteers to help with major campaign tasks like communications, pledge card collection, and coordination of special events

Arts Week
- Pick a week or two timeframe, ideally between February 1 and March 31 based on your company's schedule of activities and CEO availability
- A typical Arts United campaign lasts one or two weeks. Arts United will provide all the campaign materials campaign brochure, pledge card, posters and if appropriate a reply envelope
- Generate interest or involvement with performances, offer pledge incentives preferred parking spots, day off work, etc., free food, or choose from the many campaign ideas listed on the Sample Workplace Ideas page

Employee Giving campaigns foster new donors, new audience members, and promote increased awareness for the arts in the most cost-effective manner. Employees are provided with the opportunity to contribute to Arts United through their place of employment, often via payroll deduction.

New Campaigns
Starting a campaign at your workplace is easy, convenient and effective. If you are interested in starting a campaign, call the Development Team at the Arts United office at 260.424.0646.

The Arts United staff will provide all the materials and assistance needed for a successful campaign. Arts United campaigns are tailored to meet the size and culture of your company.

Many campaigns involve special arts group performances, talent shows, ticket drawings and innovative fundraising ideas created by employees. Arts United campaigns enhance employee morale and develop team-building skills.

Existing Campaigns
Follow these eight easy steps to a successful Arts United campaign. Check them off as you complete them:

Pre-campaign
1. Review last year's campaign
2. Involve top management
    -Establish a kick off date: _____________
    -Establish a finale date: ______________
    -Set a financial goal: $_______________
    -Set a % participation goal: ___________
    -Ask President/CEO for visible and active support of the campaign, i.e. sign letter of endorsement, appear at campaign functions, demonstrate importance of Arts United participation

3. Assemble a team
    -Engage a team to represent the entire workforce and divide duties among team members
    -Develop a theme / plan kick off events and activities - Call to make arrangements for performer/speakers

Implement
4. Include all employees
    -Solicit all employees at a group meeting or one-on-one. *Personal interaction*
    -Ensure past donors renew their gifts
    -Encourage new donors; increase participation %

5. Publicize the campaign
    -Use various communication methods including: posters, emails, voicemail, newsletters to promote the campaign
    -Share campaign dates and Arts United informational material

6. Hold a campaign kick off event
    -Begin with remarks from top management supporting the Arts United campaign
    -Provide refreshments, show video, include Arts United speakers or performers to provide an experience of the arts
    -Announce campaign goals
    -Distribute pledge cards and brochures (tell employees when, where, to whom they return pledges)
    -Inform employees of the Arts United donor benefits

    -HAVE FUN!

Wrap Up
7. Wrap up with a flourish
    -Follow-up with employees who haven't returned their pledge cards
    -Thank your team members
    -Fill out campaign report form. If your company offers payroll deduction, provide your payroll department with the results. Contact your Arts United representative for pickup.
    -Thank all donors with a finale party, a simple letter, or email
    -Announce what was raised in support of Arts United; celebrate reaching your goals

8. After the Campaign
    -Learn from your role and create clear notes for your successor
    -Call Arts United with any ideas, original materials, questions or concerns from your experience
    -Celebrate with the community by attending the Arts United Wrap Up Event

How to Conduct Payroll Deduction Back to top
One of the most convenient ways for individuals to make contributions to the Arts United fund drive campaign is through payroll deduction which is also easy to administer. Here's how:

1. Set up a withholdings account.
2. At the end of the company's fund drive campaign, tally the amount of money donated to Arts United.
3. Verify that the total amount listed on the pledge card is based accurately on the number of pay periods.
4. Keep a copy of the information for yourself and your records.
5. Make a copy of the information and send remittance either monthly or quarterly to the Arts United office at:

6. Please note, if your company offers a company matching gifts program, please include that information as well along with remittance.
