Arts United Awards more than $144,000 in Indiana Arts Commission Grants
Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne in its role as Regional Arts Partner to the Indiana Arts Commission announced the approval of $144,877 in Indiana Arts Commission grants to 35 organizations in northeast Indiana. "Requests for funding continue to rise, and grants keep getting more competitive," said Jim Sparrow, Executive Director of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne. "$530,000 in IAC grant requests were submitted, nearly $4 for every $1available."
The awards will be used for a variety of arts activities in our area. The grants were made possible through the Regional Arts Partnership of the Indiana Arts Commission, the State of Indiana's arts agency with the assistance from the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. An awards ceremony will be held this fall. Arts United is northeast Indiana's granting agent for the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC). As one of the IAC's 12 Regional Partners, Arts United provides services to 10 counties, including Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Miami, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley.

2007 Arts Project Support Grantees
FAME was awarded $2,354 in support of a two-day FAME Festival to 20,000 annual participants at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne in March 2007.
The University of St. Francis-School of Creative Arts was awarded $1,000 in support of The Closer Look Series that brings a diverse group of artists and scholars to Fort Wayne for a series of public lectures providing high quality, multicultural arts programs for underserved populations.
Miami County Historical Society as awarded $2,106 to broaden the scope of its Heritage Days Festival by bringing more of Miami County's art and cultural history into public view in an interactive and festive atmosphere.
Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre was awarded $1,900 in support of Children's Workshops that will teach children in grades 6-8 vital theatre skills with hands-on activities.
Communities Initiatives/Celebrate Diversity was awarded $2,661 to promote cultural awareness, discourage prejudice and fear, and promote community involvement through education activities, musical expression and various art forms at the "Taste of Noble County Ethnic Festival."
St. John the Baptist School was awarded $800 to support artists' fees for the Arts Enrichment Program
Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Dept. was awarded $2,260 for the Foellinger Outdoor Theatre Summer Concert/Movie Series that provides outstanding live musical experiences and family movies for citizens of all income categories while ensuring fair payment to musicians.
Fort Wayne Public Transportation Corp. was awarded $1,000 for the Poetry in Motion project that will showcase an under-represented art form to an underserved population by selecting new poetry that is relevant to public transit. These poems will be performed, published, and posted in buses.
Fort Wayne Artists Guild, Inc. was awarded $750 in support of the July 2007 Ventures in Creativity Art Show at the Arts United Center during Three Rivers Festival.
Fort Wayne Summer Symphony was awarded $1,277 for the 50th Anniversary Concert Series that includes four "Mostly Mozart" concerts and thirty-two on-site performances at area parks and assisted living centers.
Auburn Arts Commission was awarded $2,200 for the outdoor public exhibit of 20 life-size bronze sculptures by world-renown artist J. Stewart Johnson and educational components for area students and adults.
Purdue University Dept. of English & Linguistics was awarded $810 for IPFW's Visiting Writer's Series that brings excellent literary artists to greater Fort Wayne for four public readings and four workshops that feature multicultural authors and serve underdeveloped populations.
Bluffton Parks and Recreation was awarded $1,378 to assist with the cost of supplies for marketing, artistic needs, printing, administration, technical telephone and postage. The program will expand and enhance current art related programs, while developing new ones.
Memorial Park Middle School was awarded $2,000 for the Jazz Mentorship Project at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum Expo Center.
United Way Miami County /Miami Chamber of Commerce was awarded $1,931 for the Cole Porter Summerfest Fourth Annual Kids' Corner to produce free arts-in-education interactive presentations for a summer festival - dance, choral and instrumental music, theater, and visual arts.
Wabash Marketplace, Inc. was awarded $500 for the Paradise Arts Festival.
Summit City Chorus was awarded $810 for the Youth in Harmony Program: an in-school project to enhance the existing musical instruction of Allen County public and private school systems, home-school groups, and Boy/Girl Scouting by providing classroom instruction on 4-part acappella singing.
International Circus Hall of Fame, Inc. was awarded $1,923 for performer fees and ancillary expenses for our Big Top Circus.
Arts Organization Support Grantees
Fort Wayne's Children's Choir was awarded $3,863 to support the organization in serving its mission of bringing a well-rounded music education program to a diverse representation of youth and audience members.
Creative Arts Council of Wells County was awarded $4,509 to strengthen the services to Wells County by showcasing artists in the gallery and in performances, encouraging creativity through educational programs and to promote art through its productive offices.
Audiences Unlimited, Inc. was awarded $4,631 to support the Room-to-Room project that enriches the lives of healthcare residents using the arts.
LaFontaine Arts Council was awarded $2,756 for its Arts in Education program series, a year-long program of multicultural programming devoted to all Huntington County school students.
Fort Wayne Area Community Band was awarded $2,730 for a winter concert series.
Wabash Valley Music Association was awarded $3,259 for a quality musical performance series to serve the Wabash area and surrounding counties.
Manchester Symphony Society was awarded $2,930 in support of its annual concert series; two free summer concerts, educational programs and workshops for grades K-12, as well as a Masters' Class for high school students.
Artlink, Inc. was awarded $5,271 in support of nine major exhibits, nine smaller exhibits, children's art classes, weekly adult drawing sessions, and art workshops.
Fort Wayne Youtheatre, Inc. was awarded $5,128 in support of four plays, 16 weeks of theatre classes, a school tour play, an in-school drama workshops, and a summer theatre camp.
Fort Wayne Civic Theatre was awarded $12, 272 to support a mix of plays and programs representing a variety of artistic expressions that enlighten and educate people of northeast Indiana reaching across boundaries of age, race, creed, nationality and gender.
Honeywell Foundation, Inc. was awarded $12, 871 to provide operational support for cultural, recreational, and educational activities including the mainstage productions, the art gallery, and educational outreach programs for the communities in surrounding counties.
Fort Wayne Ballet was awarded $14,810 in operational support of services and programs for northeast Indiana.
Fort Wayne Dance Collective was awarded $6,561 in support of its mission to provide a respectful environment for people of all ages and abilities to learn, perform, and collaborate using movement, rhythm and language.
Fort Wayne Museum of Art was awarded $19,399 to support its mission to provide visual arts to northeast Indiana. Funds will be used to support general operations, include the vital behind the scenes expenses that ensure quality facilities, staff and programming.
Heartland Chamber Chorale was awarded $3,286 to support its 10th anniversary concert series, educational presentations and services, and provide extended educational opportunities for the organization and area educators through an Artist in Residence Program.
Fort Wayne Cinema Center awarded $8,011 to support the best in film to northeast Indiana and present speakers, discussions, educational opportunities for all ages, and special events that enhance the appreciation of film.
The Embassy Theatre was awarded $4,930 in support of Embassy-originated arts productions, including community and family programming, and performing arts classes, enabling the Embassy to welcome families and the community to explore the arts and appreciate the historic Embassy Theatre.
